As the chairman of the National Young Professional Committee, Zak Wolpert is dedicated to helping ABC develop the future of construction. He currently works for Kinsley Construction in York, Pa. and is active in the ABC Keystone Chapter’s young professional group.
Q1: What’s your role at Kinsley Construction?
A1: I work in Preconstruction and Business Development where I’m responsible for responding to RFP’s and RFQ’s, managing design, establishing and controlling overall project budgets, subcontractor and material procurement, meeting targeted sales forecasts, and building/maintaining client satisfaction.
Q2: How did you get into the construction industry?
A2: I had interned with Kinsley Construction while still attending Shippensburg University and was offered a position upon my graduation in 2008.
Q3: What’s one thing that surprised you about the industry?
A3: The amount of technology resources available to our industry and how those resources are able to be implemented on a daily basis to increase efficiency and profitability.
Q4: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A4: Every day is different from the last and each new day provides an opportunity to continue developing as an industry professional. I also enjoy working closely with clients to understand their ‘hot buttons’ and helping them meet their needs.
Q5: How have you been involved with ABC?
A5: I have been involved in trainings, seminars, and networking opportunities through our company’s membership with ABC. I’m also a member of our chapter’s Young Professionals committee, engaging in new relationships through our various event opportunities.
Q6: What is your favorite part of being involved with the ABC Young Professionals?
A6: Being able to build new relationships with individuals who share common principals, objectives, and goals while continuing to represent and promote our industry as a whole.
Q7: What advice would you give to someone entering the industry?
A7: Always be reliable and fair. Listen and try to absorb as much information as you can from the people who you work with. Every challenge presents a new solution.
