Erik Timmons is a member of the ABC National Young Professional Committee. He has helped shape the ABC’s National Young Professional program and is active in the ABC Pacific Northwest Chapter. He currently works for Yorke & Curtis General Contractors in Beaverton, Ore.

Q1: What’s your role at your company, Yorke & Curtis?
A1: I am managing principal for our company which means I cast vision for where we are going, coach and lead all of our employees to that vision, and offer support in any way I can.

Q2: How did you get into the construction industry?
A2: My mother was a custom home builder and I have been around it all my life.  I LOVE solving problems and helping people achieve something so it was a natural thing for me.

Q3: What’s one thing that surprised you about the industry?
A3: I’m surprised that manly construction guys gossip so much.

Q4: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A4: I love People. Everything I do at my company focuses on the people I’m working with, even the conflicts. If I don’t respect others and garner respect from others I have failed.

Q5: How have you been involved with ABC?
A5: I am currently on the Board of directors for the Pacific NW chapter and on the Branding committee in the same chapter. I LOVE the people I work with at ABC, some of my favorite people.

Q6: What is your favorite part of being involved with the ABC Young Professionals?
A6: I like to coach people and walk them through things that they may have not encountered before.  Being a part of YP allows me to do that. I also like to learn and being involved in YP gives me the opportunity to learn from both younger people and more experienced people.

Q7: What advice would you give to someone entering the industry?
A7: Be. A. Learner.  Always have the posture of a learner and serve people.  Don’t get caught up in thinking that what you do ends with you.  It doesn’t.
